Federation of the Art Song

The Federation of the Art Song (FAS) was founded in 2021 by Alta Malberg (President), and Martin Néron, co-artistic directors of the organization.

Believing strongly in the value of songs of all genres sung in classical style, FAS helps deserving singers and collaborative pianists to develop their artistic abilities and identities. Our goal is to educate the public on the expanding catalogue of song repertoire from a multitude of sources and communities, thus benefitting audiences and artists alike.

THE COMPONENTS OF FAS ARE:

Fellowship Award

Songs on the Move

Songs from Outside the Box

If Music be the Food of Love*

We are thrilled to introduce our FAS Fellows 2026, the brilliant duo of

Claire McCahan, mezzo-soprano, and pianist Barbie Noyes.

Claire and Barbie performed splendidly in the Oct. 24 final auditions. This year’s competition (heard in Greenfield Hall, Manhattan School of Music) was at an extremely high level of quality. A distinguished panel of judges considered ten impressive duos in the semifinal auditions, five of which advanced to the finals, performing short programs of American song.

We are grateful to MSM for their generosity in hosting us this year.

Visit our Fellowship page for more information on Claire and Barbie, and the other accomplished semifinalists and finalists.
